I prefer a beaker and a vertical dunk rather than a tray. The motion of the fix in a tray will cause currents and swirls that can show up as stains on the final image.

Hot plate with tray for gilding.

Gilding stand similar to the traditional. The heat source under can be an alcohol lamp or propane torch.

The lab squirt bottle with distilled water is used to wash the plate and remove any dust or particles from the holding tray before gilding and drying.

An alcohol lamp can be used to dry the plate or a blow dryer can be used.

A large oral syringe is useful for blowing off dust.

Compressed air will work too as long as it is moisture free.
